Introduction from Emily

This month we are featuring a client who saw strides in their ad performance and sales in March! Emily Drew is in the photography industry and has multiple products and courses that she offers. In Q1 we tested out a few of these and created funnels so we could see what would be the biggest driver of leads and sales in her business. In March we made strategy shifts to sell one product in particular that made a massive difference in her results.

Emily’s Dramatic Sports Photography course is a business-to-business offer that is designed to help photographers achieve a specific aesthetic and look for their sports photos. She specializes in this niche and knows the equipment, settings, props, lighting, and everything you need to capture a dynamic action-packed photo.

We went all in on warming up her audience and funneling them to this course in March, and the results speak for themselves. This was a classic example of how important it is to listen to your audience and build your marketing strategy around the ideal customer. When you give the people what they want we find that traffic is higher, leads are cheaper, and conversions come easy.

The main goal was to drive sales to this course and get her ROAS up from 1.2x to 2x, and we ended this month surpassing that goal! Keep reading to see how we did it!

The Strategy

In previous months we first tried the strategy of doing a live launch for another course of hers that got decent sales but it wasn't hitting the numbers we were looking for. We had also implemented an evergreen funnel for her that we were testing, but Emily did feel like this wasn’t the most impactful way to approach her audience. From these findings, we knew we needed to pivot and look at our options to choose the most impactful path going forward. 

Emily expressed that the Dramatic Sports Photography course was her highest converting product so we shifted our focus to driving traffic here in March. We started with ads sending people directly to the sales page, resulting in a 1.2x ROAS. This showed us that her audience needed a little more warming up before they felt ready to convert. We then designed a lead generation funnel that aligned with the needs of her audience so that they would feel ready to buy by the time they landed on the sales page. 

We consistently see that adding high-value content prior to asking for a sale dramatically increases conversions. To create this we first dug deep into the pain, frustrations, and desires of the ideal customer so that the lead magnet led to not only inexpensive leads but also created the exact experience we needed to convert buyers. 

In Emily’s case, she sees that many photographers struggle with knowing what equipment they need for sports photography because it’s typically different from portrait, family, senior, etc. They find it really frustrating when they go to offer this service to their clientele only to discover that they don’t have what they need to achieve the look they’ve promised. Then they go online to try to figure it out and they’re overwhelmed by all of the information that is possibly outdated anyway.

Emily already had a sports photography equipment list so we decided to make that the gateway into her funnel. It’s simple and easy but offers a quick win that builds trust between her and her audience.

Then on the ‘Thank You’ page, we led everyone directly to the Dramatic Sports Photography course because in most cases, if someone’s looking for help and they find a resource that’s in alignment with their needs and makes sense price-wise, they’ll convert on the spot.

But to be thorough, every opt-in also received nurture emails that helped them overcome objections and funnel into the course at a later point.

All of these efforts led to not only us achieving our goal of raising her 1.2x ROAS to 2x ROAS (and beyond), but also came together to develop a marketing strategy that is proving to bode well with her audience and convert! Keep reading to see how this all came together!

The Results

  • The week of March 12-18 we saw a positive shift and an upswing in Emily’s conversions after implementing this new funnel that brought in an influx of 323 leads at $0.47 per lead. Keep in mind that these are not just views on a video or traffic. These are ideal customers who opted in for Emily’s free equipment guide and said their first “yes” to her brand. During this week she converted 7 sales into her Dramatic Sports Photography course, and 6 sales into a secondary, down-sell offer - totaling $2,361 for the week and a 4.02x ROAS!
  • To wrap up the month, (March 1-27) our ads drove nearly 20k ideal customers to E-Squared Photography, brought in 753 warm leads at $0.47 per lead, and converted 26 sales totaling nearly $5k with a 2.4x return on ad spend.

Transformative Impact

Now we’re ROLLING! Since we’re seeing such great results with the funnels we implemented in March, Emily is confident and excited to scale going forward, so we're going to increase ad spend to bring in even more sales next month. We'll be launching an evergreen webinar funnel soon, and driving more retargeting ads to the warm traffic audience that we're building for Emily. This will all be happening alongside the lead generation funnel that's already converting well.

By nailing down this strategy through trying and testing what works for her audience we were able to give Emily a lot of clarity on how to grow her photography business. We don’t always know right off the bat what our audience wants (most of the time they don’t even know), so we have to be willing to adapt and pivot with what’s actually working.

There is so much security and safety that comes from knowing exactly what you need to do to generate sales, and this whole experience shows that even in a struggling economy, you can tap into a consistent stream of sales through an intentional marketing strategy.
